DJ Alkimist

Real Name: Kim Venetz
Position: Manager, DJ Instructor (Bethesda)

DJ Alkimist Kim Venetz, aka DJ Alkimist, started taking classes from the Beat Refinery when it first opened, and was immediately hooked. Two years later, she had finished the program and, along with DJ Miles Money, became one of the first Beat Refinery-certified DJs. She is now a full time DJ in the DMV area and also teaches at the Beat Refinery and manages the Bethesda Beat Refinery location. You can catch her spinning at Public Bar rooftop on Friday nights and at Capitale most Saturday nights. She has opened for DJ Jason Smith, Shwayze’s tour DJ, and has DJ’d for the Pussycat Dolls at Eden’s Green Room. She was the first female DJ to spin on Crate Apes Radio. She occasionally hosts an indie-pop dance party at the Black Cat, has spun Georgetown’s Fashion’s Night Out, and performed a scratch routine at Inkfest Live. She has been featured on www.goodietwosleeves.com, www.oribe.com, and www.theinformedvegan.com. Before she was a DJ, she spent 15 years as a classical violist and performed with several symphonies, chamber orchestras, and chamber groups, including an electric quartet. DJ Alkimist views music as a fun and emotional experience that makes people smile, dance, and feel connected to each other. She draws a lot from the ladies of pop and hip hop and is heavily influenced by international sounds, especially the European scene, as well as South American, Latin, and tropical hits. She is also heavily influenced by her home scene, the Pacific Northwest.
