DJ As-One

Artit Sriboonruang A.K.A. DJ AS-ONE

DJ AS1Artit Sriboonruang (a.k.a. DJ As-One) is a multi-talented Turntablist, DJ, Producer, and Remixer who grew up in the suburbs of Washington, DC. His most recent professional accomplishment is earning the title of Disco Mix Club’s (DMC) 2009 DC Regional Champion, representing the entire DMV in the DMC US Finals later that year. Throughout his career as a Turntablist he has competed in and won many battles, most notably earning him spots in two DMC US Finals (2009, 2005), two Gong Battle US Finals (2007, 2008), one Guitar Center National Final (2005) and top 8 in the Gong Battle for World Supremacy (2006).

Studying traditional music since the fourth grade, DJ As-One started off playing the alto saxophone. He got his first taste of the competitive side of the music scene as a member of the Parkland Middle School Jazz Band. Upon becoming a freshman at Wheaton High School, he retired his saxophone for guitars before finding his way towards the decks.

During the summer of 97’, DJ As-One went from Weezer to Wu-Tang, traded his CD’s for LP’s and purchased his first pair of belt drive turntables. Collecting vinyl records for close to a year, one particular stop to a local record shop and the purchase of a VHS tape would soon prove to be a major turning point in his life. After watching DJ Craze’s 1998 DMC World Finals winning set on video, he was both blown away and intrigued by how he saw the turntables being used as a musical instrument, and was convinced that this amazing art form was unlike anything he had ever witnessed before.

His first ever-live performance behind the turntables was at the annual Wheaton High School talent show in 1999. With nearly the entire school in attendance (including peers, staff, and parents), it was an experience that has ultimately paved the way for him becoming the seasoned stage performer that he is today.

In 2005, DJ As-One started DJ’ing events for corporations such as Nordstrom, Gap, Ann Taylor, LOFT, H&M, Vans, Charlotte Russe, Sephora, Seventeen Magazine, Mountain Dew (Sports Action Tour 2007), NBA (Rhythm N’ Rims Tour 2007), Dick’s Sporting Goods, ESPN, MasterCard, and Marlboro (50th Anniversary Bash DC 2005). During the summer of 2010, DJ As-One was featured as a celebrity guest DJ on the Norwegian Cruise Line’s (NCL) Norwegian Jewel cruise ship, sailing through the Caribbean for a month providing musical entertainment for guests of all ages.

DJ As-One has shared the stage with artists such as Kanye West, Common, Talib Kweli, Madlib, and Cappadonna. He has also performed locally as the backbone for Emcee acts Protoman, Navi The Swami, and Bobby Coma of Saint Jude.

Never afraid to play tracks that other DJ’s ignore, whether for a crowd of 50 or 5000 at a club or private event, get ready for an energetic yet eclectic and precise showcase of cuts and blends when DJ As-One is behind two turntables and a mixer.
