Beat Refinery offers classes in Bethesda and Herndon which were designed by the famous DJ Stylus Chris and DJ Geometrix. Professional DJ Certificate Requirements:

Upon completion of all the Beat Refinery required Courses and Performances, you will receive the Official Beat Refinery DJ School Certificate. This allows you to become an official member of the Beat Refinery Talent Agency where we can help guide and provide you with work opportunities. We are already positioned throughout the DMV area and among national corporations and organizations and have transformed our students into working DJs in just months after earning their certificates. 1.) Complete the Following Required Course Levels:

  • Level 1: Intro to DJing
  • Level 2: Basic Mixing
  • Level 3: Intermediate Mixing

2.) Complete 2 Elective Courses of your choice:

  • Level 3: Advanced Scratching
  • Level 4: Beat Juggling
  • Ableton Live Level 1: The Fundamentals
  • Ableton Live Level 2: Edits, Mashups & Mixes

 

3.) Attend 1 Workshop of your choice

4.) Attend and Participate in 5 Beat Refinery Events

5.) Pass The Final Exam

 

DJ Mixing Certificate Requirements:

Being able to mix music creatively and seamlessly is the foundation of any good DJ.  Beat Refinery’s “DJ Mixing Certificate” is designed to master the art of mixing.  Our goal is to prepare you towards acquiring the skills to become either a hobbyist or a professional.  The 24 week program will guide you through our Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced Mixing courses.  Upon completion you will be awarded the “DJ Mixing Certificate”, the first achievement toward acquiring the “Professional DJ Certificate”.

We know everyone’s schedules are busy and committing to a 24 week program can be difficult.  Therefore, we have designed a class schedule that allows for flexibility to ensure you keep up with the curriculum.  With multiple class days and times, a student can switch a class day for just one week or permanently move days if need be.  What’s more, this course is billed monthly for manageable payments and only require a one time materials fee.

DJ Mixing Certificate students will also receive a complimentary MixLab Membership to ensure ample practice time if you don’t own DJ equipment at home.  By taking this course package, you will save $350 as opposed to taking the courses individually.

MixLab Membership Program:

(Only available at Bethesda location.) The MixLab Membership Program is designed for students who don’t have the ability to make a set time or class. Also, if you just don’t feel ready to move along to the next course, you can spend a few months just sharpening your skills in the membership program. If you are enrolled in a course but feel you want more time behind the decks, we encourage you to join the MixLab as well. The program works similar to a gym membership. Everyday from noon till 5pm the MixLab will be open to all members. After 5pm MixLab will be held at specific times each day. You will be able to find these on our Semester Calendar. The best part is the MixLab sessions are unlimited, so you can come as often as you like! Parents can use this Membership as a daily or weekly activity for their kids. The cost for students who are not enrolled in any current courses is $150/month, and the cost for students currently enrolled in a Beat Refinery Course is $50/month. You will be billed monthly just like a gym membership and will have access to other special workshops and events at discounted prices. There are no reservations required, just sign up and show up!

 

Weekend Beat Camps:

Beat Camps are an engaging and fast way to move through Beat Refinery’s courses in just a weekend.  Consisting of two days, four hours each, and priced at $299, Beat Camps will not only save you time but money as well!  With the same curriculum as our 8 week semester long courses, obtaining a Beat Refinery Mixing Certificate will be quicker than ever and you will have a broader understanding of and skill level in the art of DJing.

 

Private 1-on-1 Lessons:

Does our group class schedule not blend with yours? Are you more comfortable with 1 on 1 instruction? Beat Refinery offers private lessons at all of our locations. Pick a time that is convenient for you and we will get you linked up with an instructor. Schedule one lesson one lesson at a time, or a pack of four.

Kids Summer Camp:

(This camp is for kids ages 10+) If your child loves music and technology, this is the camp for them! Students get hands-on experience while learning the fundamentals of mixing songs, scratching sounds, and DJ music theory. Learning from world class DJ instructors, students work on individual state-of-the-art DJ workstations and will record and perform a short 2 to 3 song mini mix at the end of the program. No previous DJ experience required.
