Music Production Program

Ableton Live has quickly become an industry favorite among producers and musicians alike. It is a user friendly loop based software used as an instrument for live performances, as well as a music sequencer / DAW for composing, recording, arranging, mixing and mastering.  Beat Refiney offers 4 levels of classes as either 4 or 8 week individual courses, or in a continuous 24 week Program.  

The 24 Week Ableton Program  is billed monthly for manageable payments and only require a one time materials fee (Please Note: There will be a $20 materials fee for all students payable on the first day of class.)  By taking these courses as a package, you will only pay $1275 and save $250 as opposed to taking the courses individually.

Ableton Live Level 1: The Fundamentals

Prerequisite: Strictly for the beginners

Duration: 4 weeks total / 90 min each week (also available in 1 day Weekend Beat Camp format)

Cost: $240 (Please Note: There will be a $20 materials fee for all students payable on the first day of class.)

Students will learn:

• - Fundamentals of the Ableton Live 8 Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) using the arrangement view.
• - Software layout and controls
• - Basic DAW mixing
• - Basic audio effects
• - Basic audio & clip editing
• - Warping/time-stretching audio
• - Automation & arrangement
• - Saving & exporting projects

Ableton Live Level 2: Edits, Mashups & Mixes

Prerequisites: Ableton Live Level 1

Duration: 8 weeks total / 90 min each week (also available in 4 week FastTrack or 2 day Weekend Beat Camp format)

Cost: $480 (Please Note: There will be a $20 materials fee for all students payable on the first day of class.)

Students will learn:

• - How to create basic mashups, blends, remixes, mixtapes, and DJ-edits using Ableton Live’s arrangement view in a studio setting
• - DAW mixing
• - Audio effects
• - Audio and clip editing
• - Arrangement
• - Transition
• - DIY acapella
• - Full-length mixtape with Live
• - Blend/mashup/bootleg track
• - Re-drum edit
• - Basic remix using samples (loop-based)

Ableton Live Level 3: Beat Making

Prerequisites: Ableton Live Level 1

Duration: 8 weeks total / 90 min each week (also available in 4 week FastTrack or 2 day Weekend Beat Camp format)

Students will learn:

• - How to create original music using Ableton Live 8, samples, and software instruments
• - Audio effects
• - MIDI effects
• - MIDI programming
• - MIDI clip arrangement and composition
• - Recording
• - DAW Mixing
• - Impulse & Drum Rack, drum programming
• - Audio effect racks
• - Instrument racks
• - Recording and manipulating software instruments
• - Creating original music compositions & remixes

Ableton Live Level 4: Performing Live using the AKAI APC-20

Prerequisites: Ableton Live Level 1

Duration: 4 weeks total / 90 min each week (also available in 1 day Weekend Beat Camp format)

Cost: $240 (Please Note: There will be a $20 materials fee for all students payable on the first day of class.)

Students will learn:

• - How to control Ableton Live 8 in a live-performance setting using the AKAI APC-20.
• - AKAI APC-20 hardware controls
• - Basic control MIDI-mapping
• - Audio effects
• - Composing with loops
• - Audio routing & use of sends/returns
• - Live’s Session view mastery
• - Clip editing and arrangement
• - Setting up your live performance
• - DJ’ing with Ableton Live 8 and the APC-20
